2011 Logo Review

Welcome to 2012. Thank goodness. 2011 was a horrible number to kern.

It’s easy to get caught up in the holiday hullabaloo and forget to reflect on what you accomplished. We’ve had the opportunity to work with some great clients in 2011 and 2012 is looking even better. Today we sat down and reviewed the logos we created for 10 companies in 2011. They include a wide range, from a civil engineering firm to a children’s app store resource for busy parents. Each is unique yet fits well into their respective marketplace.

So, take a gander through these works and then take a moment to reflect on what you accomplished last year. (more…)

Miles Design Adopt-A-Family Holiday Tradition

The holiday spirit is in full swing here at Miles Design with Christmas less than a week away now. While each of us enjoys challenging branding and design projects all year, every December we look forward to dedicating our time to some extra-special holiday “projects.” You may be familiar with our custom-designed holiday cards, but one of the holiday traditions we’ve come to enjoy most is adopting a family in need for Christmas.

This year we adopted a family through Dayspring Center—a center providing shelter, clothing and meals for homeless families with children in central Indiana. (more…)

All I Want for Christmas is…

Christmas is less than two weeks away now (yikes!), and the time remaining to purchase those all-important gifts is ticking away. No need to panic yet though. In the spirit of holiday giving, we’re sharing a few things from each of our Christmas (or every day) wish lists. Who knows, maybe we’ll spark an idea for that hard-to-buy-for person lingering on your shopping list. Happy holidays and happy shopping!

Event Collateral: National Multiple Sclerosis Society–2011 Dinner of Champions

Every year, the Indiana State Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society honors and celebrates local champions in the MS community. And, on February 22nd, friends, family, and advocates came together for the 20th Annual Dinner of Champions at Conseco Fieldhouse. This year’s honorees were Ann Larmore, a Ft. Wayne resident living with MS, and Scott Dorsey, Co-Founder of Indianapolis-based ExactTarget.

Miles Design was approached in late December to brand and design the collateral for the 20th Anniversary event. This consisted of the invitation and rsvp cards, the program, and some other night-of materials. Miles Design has worked with the MS Society on this particular event several times in the past, and we were very pleased to get another opportunity to work with such great people for such a great cause.

The 2010 holiday cards are here!

Happy holidays. Share the love.

The 2010 holiday cards are here! 7 cards. 7 designs. 7 chances to spread holiday cheer with friends, family, or clients. We’ve been busy elves here at Miles Design, and we’re each excited to share our finished designs and inspiration with you all. Enjoy!

Card 1 of 7 // Imagined by Brian Gray

My card was inspired by childhood memories of all the great patterns on wrapping paper. When you’re a kid, nothing is better than ripping into a perfectly wrapped present. I wanted to create a nice, wintery pattern and style it to an old-fashioned feel. The lyric I chose not only reminded me of the fun, commercial side of Christmas–but also the true reason for Christmas: the birth of Christ.

Project Burndown: Work. Flow.

Project Burndown is a SaaS based web application designed and developed by Expected Behavior to help manage your company’s projects, profitability, and work flow. Its unique in the project management world because it integrates with many of the other SaaS programs you’re likely already using for time tracking, billing, and task management–providing one, comprehensive tool for managing your work flow and profitability. You can manage your projects from quote to deliverable, but the real rock star is the real-time work-load graph that helps you forecast days, weeks, or months in advance. It’s awesome!

Professional Services Website Emergencies

The Top 10 Mistakes Professional Services Firms Make Online
and How to Avoid Them.

I was honored to lead a breakout session at SMPS Heartland last week on website design best practices. Building upon our previous entry entitled Website Emergency, we pulled out the top ten website design issues we see in the AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) industry.

We discussed web design best practices, reviewed writing for the web, explored the basics of SEO (search engine optimization), and much more. Our attendees all received a free website emergency checklist. If you’d like your very own, let us know.

We broke the emergencies down into three categories: content, design and SEO:

architects website mission statement

When was the last time you visited a site to read their mission statement?

1. It’s all about us.
Does your site inspire visitors with compelling messages and fantastic photography? Does it offer them what they’re looking for, or does it focus on your firm’s history and go on about your mission statement? Yawn.
